Introduction

Learning objectives

  • Use the storytelling process to learn about the marine migration of a young scalloped hammerhead shark and other migratory species along an ocean ‘swimway.’
  • Explore life in our oceans.
  • Understand threats marine species face and how the work of scientists can help protect them.
  • Identify and use storytelling features to learn more about Marti and her first journey as a young shark.

Students’ outcomes

  • Explain the purpose of animal migration and why Marti leaves her safe nursery home.
  • Identify and describe other species that join Marti on her journey and share her ocean home.
  • Describe how scientists are helping to protect marine migratory species.
