Introduction

Learning objectives

  • Use the storytelling process to learn about the migration of Alberto the waved albatross and the huge journeys he makes each year.
  • Learn about the extraordinary lives of the waved albatross and how they are adapted to live out at sea.
  • Identify other species that share Alberto’s island and ocean habitats.
  • Understand threats Albatross and other marine species face from fishing activities and plastic pollution.

Students’ outcomes

  • Describe the purpose of animal migration and why Alberto returns to the same island each year.
  • Explain how albatrosses are adapted to life at sea and why they make frequent journeys to the open ocean.
  • Identify and describe other species in the story.
  • Demonstrate understanding of how fishing activities and plastic pollution can harm marine species and the concept of ‘Science to Solutions.’
