GCT 30th Anniversary Webinar 2025

On 1 April we held a very special webinar to reflect on both the successes and the challenges of the last 30 years, and to look ahead with hope to the next 30 years.

Tom O'Hara

Communications Manager

This year, we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Galapagos Conservation Trust.

During the last three decades, we have seen many changes on the Islands, both positive and negative. Thanks to the projects that we have helped to drive forward, we have seen whole islands cleared of invasive species, new protections for marine life, and the next generation of Galapagos-born conservationists fighting to protect their home islands. At the same time, we have seen tourist numbers climbing precipitously, industrial fishing fleets circling, and a rising tide of plastic pollution threatening to overwhelm local authorities.

At our special anniversary webinar we reflected on both the successes and the challenges of the last 30 years, and looked ahead with hope to the next 30 years. Dr Jen Jones, CEO of Galapagos Conservation Trust, was joined by GCT Ambassador, author and editor of Galapagos Matters magazine, Dr Henry Nicholls, and GCT’s Ecuador-based Programmes and Policy Manager, Lucía Norris Crespo.
