GCT will accept shares worth £250 or more. Unfortunately, the administration cost involved in transferring and selling a smallholding of shares is likely to outweigh the financial return if the value of the shares is less than £250.   

GCT will assess the state of the market and our own needs at the time and make a decision as to whether to sell the shares as soon as possible or to keep the shares for longer-term investment. All funds generated from the sale of shares are used to support GCT’s charitable objectives.

 Either option will provide great support to GCT’s work in Galapagos. However, as the tax benefits to you may vary, we recommend that you seek personal tax or investment advice from an accountant, solicitor or financial adviser according to your own situation. You can also visit the HM Revenue & Customs website as this has much more information on donating assets to charities.

There are two different ways to donate your shares: 

If you have a printed share certificate, please send this original document to GCT along with a completed stock transfer form. A stock transfer form can be obtained from the registrars of the company in which you have shares or from your stockbroker.Please ensure you keep a copy of this for your records.

If your shares are held electronically, you will need to instruct your stockbroker to contact GCT and arrange a transfer of your shares. We will need a reference number from your stockbroker and their contact details. You or your stockbroker can contact us at the address above, or by email at [email protected].  

GCT accepts donations of shares worth at least £250 in UK and foreign-listed companies. Whilst GCT will accept shares in all types of companies, we will immediately sell any shares received in companies that we feel could compromise our values and we may exercise our discretion in accepting gifts of shares that we feel are in direct conflict with GCT’s interests and strategic objectives.

You will need to keep a dated copy of the transfer form or letters relating to your donation in order to be able to make a tax-relief claim.
