GCT Ambasador Stephen Fry presents BBC Radio 4 Appeal
Actor, broadcaster, writer and bona fide national treasure Stephen Fry raises the plight of Galapagos giant tortoises and the threat of plastic pollution in this week's BBC Radio 4 Appeal.
GCT’s newest Ambassador, Stephen Fry, presents this week’s BBC Radio 4 Appeal, highlighting the threat to Galapagos giant tortoises from plastic pollution.
Giant tortoises are vital ‘ecosystem engineers’, shaping the landscape and creating the conditions for other species to thrive. But a growing human population is putting pressure on giant tortoises, contaminating their habitats with plastic pollution and other harmful waste which is then being eaten by the tortoises. By boosting tortoise numbers, we can repair damaged ecosystems and allow nature to thrive.
Our appeal will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on the following days:
Sunday 10 November 2024
7:54 am / 9:25 pm
Thursday 14 November 2024
3:27 pm
The appeal is also available to listen to at any time on BBC Sounds.
We are launching this appeal to raise money for the protection of Galapagos giant tortoises on the islands that they share with humans. The funds we raise will allow us to continue training a new generation of Galapagos-born conservationists and supporting the Young Tortoise Protectors, who are cleaning up litter and sounding the alarm when tortoises wander into urban areas. It will also help us as we continue to campaign for stronger measures to curb plastic pollution, both in Galapagos and worldwide.
Please note the BBC website and phone line will only be taking donations for GCT until Saturday 16 November. If you would like to donate after this date, please click here.
