Introduction

Learning objectives

  • Use the storytelling process to learn about the migration of a young female Galapagos giant tortoise called Tessa.
  • Explore the life cycle and adaptations of giant tortoises.
  • Identify other species that share Tessa’s island home.
  • Understand threats Galapagos tortoises face during their annual migrations and actions we can take to help protect them.

Students’ outcomes

  • Explain the purpose of animal migration and why Tessa makes her journey to the highlands and back again.
  • Describe the life cycle and adaptations of giant tortoises.
  • Describe other species and identify those that can cause harm to other wildlife.
  • Illustrate understanding of how we can help reduce the impact of threats to giant tortoises through our actions.
