How to raise money for Galapagos on social media

To help kickstart GCT's 30th anniversary fundraising campaign, we've created a guide on how you can fundraise for us through Facebook and Instagram.

Communications and Education Officer

Social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, can be used to create captivating and creative fundraising campaigns for your followers. Setting up a fundraiser on Facebook and Instagram should be quick and simple, but to assist you, we’ve created a step-by-step guide.

Fundraising through Facebook

1. On the left-hand side of your homepage, click Fundraisers. If you can’t see Fundraisers, then click See more.

2. In the left-hand corner of the screen, click + Raise money.

3. Select Galapagos Conservation Trust as the charity you would like to fundraise for.

4. You will have a preview of how your fundraiser will look on desktop and mobile screens.

5. On the left-hand side of your screen, you can edit your fundraiser, including setting a target goal and duration and including a fundraiser title and description of what you’re raising money for.

6. When you are ready to publish your fundraiser, click Create.

Important considerations when fundraising on Facebook

  • Before you start setting up your fundraiser, check that charitable giving is available in your country.
  • Fundraisers are public, so anyone on or off Facebook can see them; however, only people on Facebook can donate.

Fundraising through Instagram

1. Log in to your Instagram account and click + Create at the bottom of your page or swipe right anywhere in the feed.

2. Create or choose an image for the fundraiser, click Next to crop/filter your post as needed, then click Next.

3. Once you have added a caption to your post, click More options and then Add fundraiser.

4. Select Galapagos Conservation Trust as the charity you would like to fundraise for.

5. Once chosen, click Edit fundraiser.

6. Enter the details for your fundraiser, including a Fundraising title and Goal amount. You also have the option to Invite collaborators and turn on Donation Match, which will allow a third party to match donations made to a fundraiser up to a specific amount. This essentially doubles the impact of a donor’s contribution. Once all the information has been added, click Done.

7. You will be able to launch your fundraiser by clicking Share.

Important considerations when fundraising on Instagram

  • People can access your fundraiser from the post and via a link in your profile bio.
  • If your profile is public, your fundraiser will be visible to anyone. If your profile is private, only people who follow you will be able to see and donate to your fundraiser.
  • Your fundraiser will be active for 30 days, however, you can extend the fundraiser’s duration or end it at any time. To extend the duration of your fundraiser, click on the post with the fundraiser, click Options in the top-right corner, then Extend fundraiser.
