You may submit more than one entry, but please ensure that each entry is a single story of no more than 250 words.

All entries must be your own work, and must not have been previously published elsewhere, other than on a personal blog. If you submit a piece of writing that plagiarises another author, in full or in part, it will be disqualified.

We also request that you refrain from using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT. This is not in keeping with the spirit of the competition, and any entries found to have been written by generative AI will be disqualified.

All entries into the 2024 Galapagos Writing Competition must be received by midnight on Tuesday 2 July 2024.

Whilst entry into this writing competition is free, we encourage entrants to make a donation to Galapagos Conservation Trust – £5 per entry is recommended. Your donations will support one of our many projects in the Galapagos Islands.

1. Your writing must relate to an experience within the Galapagos Archipelago. This includes all land area, and extends out to the 40 Nm boundary of the Galapagos Marine Reserve.
2. Submissions must be received by midnight (UK time) on 2 July 2024.
3. All entries must be the original work of the entrant, and must not infringe on the rights of any other party. Your entry must not have been published before, other than on a personal blog or website.
4. The competition organisers and the judges reserve the right to exclude any entry they believe may have been written using generative AI tools.
5. Writers retain the copyright of any entered writing. Your entry into this writing competition constitutes your agreement to grant Galapagos Conservation Trust a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, and publicly display the writing you submit to Galapagos Conservation Trust, for use in any Galapagos Conservation Trust publication or webpage related to the Writing Competition, and to be used in Galapagos Conservation Trust promotions, including, but not limited to, advertising future writing competitions, publications from GCT or other organisations, exhibitions, future marketing materials and campaigns, webpages, email bulletins and to raise funds for GCT.
6. By entering this competition, entrants will be deemed to have agreed to be bound by these rules and the competition organisers reserve the right to exclude any entry from the competition at any time and in its absolutes discretion if the organisers have reason to believe that an entrant has breached these rules.
7. A list of winners will appear on the website. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
8. The competition is open to anyone except GCT employees and competition judges. Amateur and professional writers of any nationality are eligible.
