Fray Tomas de Berlanga was the first person to discover the Galapagos Islands. Patrick Watkins was the first person to discover what it was like living on the Galapagos Islands. Charles Darwin was the first person to discover the new and extraordinary species that have evolved on the Galapagos Islands. This month, we are giving you the opportunity to discover Galapagos for yourself, in three exciting ways:
Our new educational resource Discovering Galapagos, brought to you in partnership with the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), is packed full of information on this incredible World Heritage Site. Learn about the Islands’ human history using the site’s interactive timeline. Find out about the different habitat zones using our interactive animation. Test your knowledge of food chains by having a go at the Who Eats Who quiz.
Whether you are a teacher, a student or just wish to learn more about the Galapagos Islands, we hope you find this a powerful and engaging learning resource. If you have any comments or suggestions, please get in touch with the Discovering Galapagos team using the online contact form.
Re-Discovering Galapagos Day
Last month saw the unveiling of the Spanish-language version of Discovering Galapagos in Ecuador and in the Islands themselves. This month, we are officially launching it in the UK…and you can be a part of it. On 28 October, join us at the prestigious headquarters of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) for our biggest event of the year.
Re-Discovering Galapagos Day will include exhibitions displaying a wide variety of Galapagos material; from the winning images of this year’s Galapagos Photography Competition, to memorabilia from the voyage of the Beagle. In the main theatre there will be a series of talks by Galapagos experts followed by a Q&A panel where you can have your Galapagos questions answered. You will also have the chance to try out interactives and games from Discovering Galapagos and to talk with members of past Galapagos expeditions.
